Expedition Captain LITE

Browser-based route and track review for passage planning and ECDIS hand-off. Structured chart and table workflows; your files stay on your device.

Version

What Expedition Captain Lite does

  • Review, edit, and export routes and tracks for passage planning and hand-off to ECDIS or shore systems
  • Chart preview and table editing for structured review—not a certified ECDIS or navigation system

Routes and tracks

  • Single workspace: chart map and route table with undo and redo for edits
  • Waypoint rows for position, turn radius, and port/starboard corridor; leg rows for bearing, leg distance, and distance run
  • Route navigation — step through waypoints, jump by number, reverse order, and refit the chart with Focus Route
  • For tracks, the map shows the recorded path; simplify with adjustable tolerance before export
  • Chart review aids — up to two EBL / VRM overlays and a ruler for bearing and distance read-off during review (not exported)
  • Edit names and coordinates in the table; drag waypoints, insert on the chart or at a leg midpoint, and delete when the route allows

Corridors and turn radius

  • Edit port and starboard corridor width in the table; copy values along downstream waypoints when that matches your passage routine
  • Turn-radius-aware chart preview is for review only; exports follow the waypoint table
  • Impossible corner inserts are refused with a clear message

Supported formats

  • Import — common route and track formats including GPX, RTZ/RTZP, RT3, KML/KMZ, GeoJSON, CSV, Olex tracks, and selected ECDIS and planner exports. See the Compatibility tab for the full list.
  • Export — GPX, RT3, RTZ, KML, and GeoJSON, retaining speed and corridor values where the format allows. See the Compatibility tab for variant detail.

Privacy and local processing

  • Preview, editing, and export run entirely in your browser on your device
  • Route and navigation files you open are not uploaded to Expedition Captain servers for processing
  • Network use is for the app, map tiles, and normal browser services—not your voyage data

Looking ahead

Expedition Captain Lite concentrates on file interchange, structured review, and calm passage preparation today. The wider Expedition Captain platform will grow with additional planning layers over time, always complementary to certified bridge systems and the master’s authority.
